I Could Get Up and Back Right on Track

“But is right on track, is that gonna get you back??”

That song has been going through my head over and over tonight.  I have no idea why since I haven’t heard it since the 80s.  Wait, I wasn’t born in the 80s.  Hmmmm.

So today I spent most of the day either practicing, thinking about how I should be practicing, or wondering when I would get the chance to practice.  I did practice.  I got 2 1/2 hours of practice done.  I feel like I have done a ton of work is such a short time.  Tomorrow I will drill and drill and drill.   One day before a big show and workshop is never a chill day.  I also have to complete my costumes!!  If I could add costuming hours into my total, I would definitely hit it much faster!!

Like I said before, this week’s blogging seems so tame because all I have done is practice.  Check me out next week when I will have my sarcasm back in true Jez form!!!

I’m Gonna Keep on, Keep on

“Keep on, keep on dancing all through the night.  I gonna keep on, keep on, keep on, doin’ it riiiiiight.”

FYI, I am not old enough to know that song first hand.

So, today was a long day of trying to figure out costumes and practicing.  I practiced my solo and a group piece.  And then I drove to Cleveland to practice with Hareem Shar’eem and we went over and over our piece.  Then I drove home and started practicing my solo again.  I practiced 3 1/2 hours today.  I was going to practice more and I just left my ipod where I was going hit the button again to practice my solo.  Then I realized I just can’t do it again.  I have to start fresh tomorrow.  I hit the practice wall.  It might be because the 3 1/2 hours was used to work on three choreographies.  I did those three over and over and over.

I feel like now that I am focusing everything on this workshop and show, I am not as good of a blogger.  I have no funny stories to tell because all I do is practice and stress about practicing.  Pre-show Jez is not as much fun.  I have to make a note of that.  If I hadn’t gone on that long cruise before this workshop, I might have been more prepared and less stressed.  But the snorkeling knows no show importance.  Neither does the rum punch!!!  Still, I am close to ready for this thing!!

My dogs were funny today.  And they are full of energy this close to midnight because I was away from them practicing for hours.  That is the best non-practice story I have right now.  😉

I Keep Forgetting

“Every time you’re near.”

I forgot to blog again yesterday.  I will work harder to remember “blog before sleep.”  Sometime I will do neither as all you that know I am an Insomniac will realize.

So yesterday I taught Drilling class and had a wonderful Choreography class with Maevyn.  They are looking so good with the belly-esque routine that they are doing this weekend.  They have turned a corner into synchronized awesomeness!!!  I also practiced my solo for a while logging in a total of 2 1/2 hours yesterday.

Today.  I practiced my solo and worked some new choreography into it.  I practiced so much I am almost to the point I can feel calm about it.  I get 1 1/2 hours today.

Tomorrow and the rest of the week, I need to practice everything, every day–my solo, the Hareem Shar’eem piece, the Wicked Gypsy piece, and what I am teaching.  We are almost there!!!

Down on the Corner, Out in the Street

“Over on the corner there’s a happy noise
People come from all around to watch the magic”

So this has to be a weekend blog because I forgot to blog again yesterday.  I am having a hard time remembering.  Before I went into the blue sea, I had my routine down.  Before I went to bed every night, I hopped on here to tell you all my accomplishments.  I will get back in the swing of things.

Hareem Shar’eem had a great gig this weekend.  It was a benefit of some kind (is it wrong that I don’t know what we were benefiting??)  Anyway, we were there as the people entered a room that was built up to look like a street.  We danced next to a stop sign and had a basket near us to look like we were busking.  We brought all our shiny props.  There were some great drummers there too so we had a nice beat the whole time.  We had a giant speaker next to us that was making street noises–traffic, planes, beeping, yelling etc.  My tiny little iboom could not have beat that so it never came out of its case.  But we were blessed because the drummers were so much better than canned.  Awesome gigs like this make it all worth it.

Aside from that, there was practicing this weekend.  Wicked Gypsy practice and working on my solo for the finale of my show.  I  logged in 3 1/2 hours today and yesterday.  It is super crunch time now so more tomorrow!!

Hot Child in the City

“Runnin’ wild and lookin’ pretty.”

That song  has nothing to do with anything.  I was just randomly thinking of it.  I do run wild though.

I haven’t gotten back into the habit of blogging every day yet.  I forgot to blog yesterday but I did keep track of my practice time.  It has become a habit to look at the clock when I start and stop, answer the phone, take a break etc.  That is going to be a hard habit to break after the year is over.

It is crunch time for my gothic workshop.  The workshop and show are a week from tomorrow.  I am feeling a little overwhelmed by it all since I just got back and it is upon me.  For the show I have four troupe routines:  Maevyn’s gothy burlesque piece, The Shuvani Jezebels’ Creepy goth piece, Wicked Gypsy will also be doing a creepy goth piece, and Hareem Shar’eem will be doing a Gothic Waltz  Fusion piece.  Of those four, I will be in two of them–Creepy Goth (done and learned, check!!)  Goth Waltz Fusion (Done, check!!  Learned–not yet!!)  I will also be doing a solo finale piece  That is what I am finishing up now.  I always plan for myself last.  A solo is easier to cram in because I don’t have to depend on anyone else to get it done so that is good.  I am still stressed though.  I always get stressed when something like this is coming up.  If was counting the hours of stressing out, I would be much closer to my goal!!!;)

Back to why we are here.  Yesterday, I practice for an hour, today I practiced for an hour.  When practicing over the next week, I will hit each of the routines that I am in for the show as well as the two I am teaching for the workshop.  I usually focus on one each day more than the others.  Today it was the haunted carnival piece I am going to teach for the workshop.  It would fall under the category of fun rather that somber goth.   I like it.  We’ll see who else does next Saturday.

It’s Cold and Lonely

“In the deep dark night.  I can see paradise.”

Actually I have seen paradise and you know what it does not include??  Snow, boots, coats, black ice warnings going across the bottom of the tv, dead car batteries at the airport, salt tracked into my house, statements that include the word “burrrrr.”

I could so easily live in the Caribbean.  I would not even own a pair of socks if I did and I would snorkel weekly in clear water that feels like a giant bath.  I discovered snorkeling on my trip and I must say I love it.  I saw marine life in colors I didn’t even know existed.  I followed a white fish that had lines of bright blue and hot pink framing it.  I followed it for ten minutes until it went under the boat and then I couldn’t find it again.  Much like temperatures over 30 degrees here!!

I did much swimming while I was gone–hours, I would say.  That and walking was the bulk of my exercise while I was gone.  I practiced too but not as much as I planned.  I didn’t have much room to do it in and I kept bumping into things.  But I powered through.

I got home on Monday morning and I have pretty much been responding to emails since then.  As I caught up, more emails would come in.  I would have felt guilty if I started blogging before answering everyone.  I am caught up now though and will be blogging every day just like before.  Also, I got hired to teach two more workshops since I have been back which has really helped inspire me to get back in the game right away and really work on my goals!!

So while I was on my vacation, I practiced for 2 hours total.  Paltry, I realize but I got some things accomplished.  All my work was for the upcoming Goth show.

Since my return, I taught two classes on Monday as well as practicing for the show-2 hours total.  Tuesday, I taught Nadeau’s class as well as practicing for the show–1 1/2 hours total.  Today I practiced by myself and then drove to Cleveland for a rehearsal with Hareem Shar’eem and scored another 2 hours.

Gathering it all, I have added 7.5 hours to my total since I last graced my blog with my witty words.  I see my average going back up now that I am back in the land of snow and I have some big shows and workshops coming up!!
